FREQUENTLY ASKED TAISHOKOTO QUESTIONS

D.What’s the significance of the Selling Date?

Taishokoto was put on sale on September 9, 1912.  An odd number is a lucky number.  This was introduced to Japan from China.  September is the 9th month and the date is 9th too.  Double odd numbers are luckier than single ones.  People honor these days by calling it "Cho-yo no sekku" a lucky day.  September 9 was the date of the Chrysanthemum Festival.  Chrysanthemum is the designed emblem for the Emperor’s family and the representative flower of Japan.  This date was a public holiday until Japan adopted the solar calendar.
