FREQUENTLY ASKED TAISHOKOTO QUESTIONS

F. Why was there a name change?

The reign of the Meiji Emperor ended on July 30, 1912 when Emperor Meiji passed away.  The Taisho era started from this date.  This newly named Taishokoto was on sale within a month and a half.  Thus the spread of the "koto of Taisho" became known as "Taishokoto".    It is said that even Mr. Goro Morita accepted this name change and called the musical instrument "Taishokoto" himself.
