G. What was the taishokoto sales and growth like?
In the early years the taishokoto sold poorly. It was probably due to unfamiliarity and not knowing how to play the instrument. It was said that Mr. Goro Morita was selling his taishokoto by doing ●5. demonstrations on a straw mat on the grounds of Ohsu-kannon temple. His demonstrations and newspaper advertising on its practical use and assistance from music wholesalers brought a successful result. (#24.)Performance in front of the Emperor Taisho brought more interest to the instrument. The idea that "Everyone could play the taishokoto easily without special effort" was a strong selling point of the taishokoto. The saying ◆4."Taisho-geisha-girl" was a promotional slogan to mean that geisha-girls who could not play shamisen could play taishokoto with a short time of preparation. (Geisha -girl is a hostess who plays with shamisen or other musical instrument at Japanese style hotel and restaurant.)
